Hey Kids! It’s the Powderhorn Kids’ Choir 2.0!

(looking for Toddler Music Time? Get more info here!)

Liberated Voices for All!

Did you know there used to be a children’s choir in Powderhorn?! We met Barb Tilsen, who founded it with her daughter and ran it for several years with amazing community collaborations!

We’re excited to be launching The Powderhorn Kids’ Choir 2.0: Liberated Voices for All! (It’ll be rooted in Powderhorn but kids from all over are absolutely welcome to join 🙂 )

Liz and Tiphanie (aka “PH”) will be leading and teaching kids songs to meet this moment, full of joy, justice, courage, emotional regulation, and loving all all all of our neighbors.

Tuesday afternoons, 4:30-5:30 pm, starting January 27th
at New City Center, 3104 16th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55407

Snack and Art time starting at 4 pm!  For kids ages 1st-5th grade (we’ll consider your very focused kindergartner if they love to sing 🙂 )

We want to make this as accessible as possible to families who want to come, so we are running this on a sliding scale. No kid will be turned away; we never want money to be a barrier to music!

Please fill out the registration form here and we’ll be in touch!

If you’d like to donate to support this project so we can serve more kids with the sliding scale, Venmo and Paypal links are here, please put “Kids Choir” in the notes. Thank you so much!

ABOUT US:

Tiphanie “PH” Copeland, she/her

Ti(PH)anie Copeland is a Queer, Neurodivergent, Disabled Artist-Organizer from North Minneapolis, now rooted on the Southside in Powderhorn. A performance, musical, visual, and written artist, PH’s mixed-media and multimedia work is spellwork and sanctuary—advocacy stitched with spirit, healing carried in color and form. She channels the world’s emotions through her body, keeping them from hardening into harm. Her layered, spiritual, bold creations call folx to unearth injustice, dismantle white supremacy, and conjure liberated worlds. See their work on instagram at @phullbodiedart.

Liz Digitale Anderson, she/they

Liz is an artist, activist, organizer, musician, and mama to two elementary school kids. For a loooooong while now she’s been pondering how to build community around her kids so they have a deep, beautiful web of people besides just her reinforcing values of justice, solidarity, equity, and generosity, rooted in a foundation of love.

Liz finally realized that she can still sing you every word of the Sunday School songs she sang in third grade, but that she wanted her kids singing something different. And that maybe singing was the key to making certain messages sticky and also unlocking this community building thing. When she discovered that PH was all-in on the idea of a kids’ choir, they decided to give this a go!
